The Ladies of the track and field team at UDC showed phenomenal athleticism recently when competing at the HBCU Invitational at Prince George's Sport Complex. The HBCU indoor track event is one of the most exciting because the team goes against some of the best historical black colleges in the East Coast. The team had a very positive attitude and was ready to go out there and run. Senior Anene Wynn placed second in the 60 meter hurdles and third in the triple jump.

Junior Irene Rono also did well, placing second in the mile run. This is the second year of the new Women's track and field program at the UDC. They have three ranked runners in the NCAA Division 2, Stellah Sang, Maurisa Williams and Anene Wynn, who bring great attention to the revitalized track and field program. Now that the word has got out, the track program has runners across the country and the world wanting to join our track and field program.

Assistant coach Patrice Irby said, "We hope to start a men's team indoor track program by next year." Ms. Irby is an Alumna and former track star at UDC. She brings her knowledge and coaching experience along with coach Marc Harrison's 14 years of coaching experience to help achieve the UDC Team's goals. Sophomore Stellah Sang who is the regional cross-country champion said, "This year was a good season; our runners really raised the bar." With the drive and passion these ladies have they are going to continue to set the standards for the women's track and field team. They have worked hard to get respect competitively as evidenced by their terrific showing at the HBCU meet. Other teams will surely be checking for UDC next season.
